What Are Dental Implants?

A dental implant is used to replace the root of your natural tooth. At U Shine Dental Care we use biocompatible implants made of zirconia. It is made to fit into the jawbone and once it is inserted, an artificial tooth is connected to the implant. The implant helps to keep the replacement tooth in it’s specific position.

Who Can Receive Dental Implants?

The ideal candidate for dental implants will be in fine health, and have the needed amount of jaw bone to support a dental implant. If you don’t have a sufficient amount of bone in your jaw than bone grafting may be an additional option for you.

What Happens During The Procedure?

You will have an initial examination with one of our dentists where they will examine your mouth and take x-rays of your head, jaw, and teeth to determine if dental implants are the best solution for you.

If after examining your x-rays and mouth our dentist decides that dental implants are a feasible option for you then you will schedule your procedure date.

During the initial part of the procedure our dentist will put a dental implant into your jawbone under the gums. The gums will be stitched up and as the gums heal the implant will connect with the bone and attach to the gum. This can take a few months to fully heal.

For the next phase of the procedure our dentist will review the implant and ensure it has successfully healed. Next our dentist will attach what is called an abutment to the implant. The abutment is a post that combines the replacement tooth with the implant.

If you are having more than one dental implant done then our dentist may choose a fixed bridge. This bridge would replace multiple teeth by covering a section of your mouth that is missing teeth.
