Dental anxiety and phobia is common for patients of all ages. It?s estimated that 40% of Canadians live with a fear about visiting the dentist. If you are afraid to go to the dentist, talk with Dr. Forman or Dr. Ranu about how Laughing Gas helps to overcome anxiety and phobias.
Nitrous oxide and oxygen is commonly known as laughing gas. It has no smell or colour. Laughing gas is a type of sedation that you can inhale which will not irritate you and does not have lasting side effects after your appointment. Inhalation sedation is safe and commonly used. Laughing gas has no poor side effects on the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, or brain.
Laughing gas is administered through a mask which goes over your nose. You are able to breath normally while inhaling the nitrous oxide and oxygen. Laughing gas works quickly and allows patients to relax almost immediately. While inhaling laughing gas, patients will experience warm sensations, and a sense of well being. Patients are able to respond to questions from the dentist while inhaling laughing gas. If you do experience any discomfort, tell your dentist and they will be sure to accommodate you. If you wish to stop the treatment, the dentist will take your mask off for you.
Laughing gas is gone from the body within five minutes of the mask being taken off. This convenient sedation allows patients to safely drive home after their procedure.
